Ex-finance chief weighs in on HK affairs

Frederick Ma Si-hang, a former Hong Kong finance chief, said that the financial hub should think hard about the next steps amid changes in the macroeconomic environment and complex geopolitical situations.

But one thing is for sure: Hong Kong will continue to rely on the mainland for support, Ma said.

In an interview with Andrew Weir, vice chairman of the Financial Services Development Council, Ma shared personal anecdotes such as growing up in a 100-square-foot apartment with his family and taking up as many as four part-time jobs during his university years.

Meanwhile, FSDC announced yesterday that Angel Chia has been appointed the executive director of the Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy.

The HKAWL was established in November, with New World Development's Adrian Cheng Chi-kong appointed chairman.

Chia, who has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector, currently serves as chair of the Family Office Association Hong Kong.
