The ASEAN Film Festival 2026, organised by the Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation, officially opened on August 20 with a ceremony at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, bringing together government officials, Consuls-General and filmmakers from across the region.
Running until September 27, the festival features over 30 free screenings, including works from all 11 ASEAN countries as well as selected films from Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, China (Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland), Kazakhstan, Nepal, Pakistan and Russia. This year's programme highlights a strong musical dimension, with many selections weaving sound and music into their storytelling.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said the festival is about connection and collaboration between ASEAN and Hong Kong, resonating with Hong Kong's strategic positioning as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. Muzambli Markam, Dean of the ASEAN Consuls-General in Hong Kong, noted the festival highlights the diversity of cultures and creative voices across ASEAN and beyond.
Special screenings will be accompanied by sharing sessions with filmmakers. Phase 2 tickets are now available on the festival website on a first-come, first-served basis.
