The fifth “HK Comics Support Programme” held its launch ceremony on Friday, announcing 17 selected local comic enterprises and introducing their lead artists and new original comic projects.
The program received a record 101 applications. Selected companies will receive free booths at Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong 2026 and Malaysia’s Comic Fiesta 2026 to showcase and promote their funded comics.
Assistant Commissioner for Cultural and Creative Industries Yvonne Ip Man-yee congratulated the 17 enterprises and expressed hope for their success.
Since 2021, the program has supported many promising talents, with works winning international awards.
The judging panel, comprising veteran comic artists and industry representatives, selected based on creativity, market potential, past works, and production skills.
Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation President Tony Wong hoped the fifth edition would further elevate Hong Kong comics globally and establish them as a key pillar of the city’s creative industries.
The past four editions funded 63 original titles with diverse themes, leading to nearly 40 overseas licensing deals and translations into multiple languages.
Program judging chairman Ma Wing-shing said participating in comic festivals allows artists to meet readers, gather feedback, refine styles, understand market needs, and improve professionally.
The program has two categories: one for companies with under 6 years’ experience and another for those with 6+ years or previous participants.
This year, category two was enhanced to allow sequel submissions for prior funded works that already secured overseas licensing, supporting IP continuity and international expansion.
