2 vehicles torched in suspected arson near Haven of Hope Hospital

Two vehicles were set on fire near Haven of Hope Hospital in Tseung Kwan O late on Christmas Day, with witnesses reporting explosions and seeing thick black smoke.

The blaze at the end of a Po Lam Road South branch near Mau Wu Tsai Village was reported by multiple callers around 11pm. Online aerial footage showed large flames and smoke.

Firefighters found a van and a small truck engulfed in flames, which also spread to nearby hillside trees. The fire was extinguished within about an hour. No injuries were reported.

Police deemed the cause suspicious and are investigating it as arson. The fire was separated from the hospital by a wire fence and did not affect its operations.
