Electric unicycle fire in Tuen Mun estate injures two, 80 evacuated

A fire caused by an electric unicycle charging inside a flat at Fu Tai Estate in Tuen Mun early on Wednesday injured two people and forced about 80 residents to evacuate, police said.

Police received a report from a female resident at Yan Tai House around 4.19am that the device was on fire and she was trapped inside.

Firefighters rescued a 44-year-old woman surnamed Tsang, who suffered smoke inhalation, and her 23-year-old son surnamed Li, who sustained a hand injury. Both were taken to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.

The so-called "wind fire wheel" electric unicycle was being charged at the time. The unit's wall near the entrance was blackened and nearby items were damaged.

About 80 residents evacuated on their own. Fire services preliminary investigations found no suspicious circumstances.
