A 68-year-old woman was hospitalized with facial burns after a cooking oil fire broke out in her Sha Tin kitchen on Wednesday evening.
Police received reports around 6pm of an explosion sound coming from a unit at Choi Wo Court on Wo Sheung Tun Street in Fo Tan.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived to find traces of fire in the kitchen. The resident, surnamed Lam, sustained burns to her face and hair but remained conscious. She received initial treatment at the scene before being transported to Prince of Wales Hospital.
The fire reportedly started when oil residue on a stove burner suddenly ignited, causing a brief blaze that didn't require building evacuation.
Police and fire services preliminary investigation suggests the incident was accidental with no evidence of criminal involvement.
