The security at the man’s residence, New Jade Garden, reported around 11.38 am that black smoke was billowing from a unit in Tower 1.
The male resident, surnamed Lee, was found collapsed in the toilet and was pronounced dead after being rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.
Meanwhile, his 31-year-old daughter suffered from smoke inhalation in the bedroom and was sent to the same hospital for treatment.
It was learned that the short circuit of a phone charger caused the fire.
Several residents evacuated after the incident, and the Fire Services Department and police are investigating the cause of the fire.
