Nearly 3000 appointed as members of the 'Three Committees' to serve the community

A total of 2,999, including all the incumbent district councilors, were appointed as members of the "Three Committees" for a new term of office of two years to serve the community starting on Monday (Apr 1). 

The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs has appointed 1,937 individuals as members of the Area Committees, 536 as representatives of the District Fight Crime Committees, and 526 as members of the District Fire Safety Committees.

The government said it identifies suitable members based on the merit of the individuals concerned, considering the candidate's ability, expertise, experience, integrity, and commitment to serving the community, as well as with due regard to the functions of "the three committees."

Each prospective candidate for the District Council geographical constituency election must be subscribed by at least three but not more than six members of each of the Three Committees in the relevant District. 

For the District Committees constituency (DCC) election, a prospective candidate also has to be subscribed by at least three but not more than six members from each of the Three Committees in the relevant District as electors. A candidate for the DCC election need not be a member of the "Three Committees."
