A mother was arrested Tuesday morning in Sham Shui Po after leaving her daughter home alone, with the daughter having to be rescued by onlookers as she was found dangling from the outside drying rack.
Around 8 am today, the police received multiple reports from pedestrians that they had seen a 3-year-old girl hanging on the drying rack outside the fourth floor apartment on Wong Chuk Street in Sham Shui Po.
Several onlookers rushed up to the building to rescue the trapped girl, but there was no one in the flat.
Later, a woman quickly rushed up the building and swiftly opened the door. Two men successfully rescued the girl, and fortunately, she did not suffer any injuries.
After a police investigation, the 44-year-old mother, surnamed Lee, was arrested for "Ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of child or young person".
The case was handed over to the Sham Shui Po police district for follow-up.
The father later arrived after receiving the news and headed to the police station with his daughter, she was later taken to Cartias Medical Centre for medical attention.
It is understood that the mother was outside shopping and left her daughter behind at home. It is suspected that the daughter was looking for her mother and climbed out of the window, leading her to becoming trapped and hanging from the drying racks.
