The comment came after a video posted online showing the fragility of the designated bags, which claimed that the bags could be easily torn apart.
EPD said the bags' durability and environmental protection principles have been considered when selecting the materials for the designated bags, which is why the bags must contain at least 20 percent recycled plastic to reduce the content of virgin plastic.
The department added that the designated bags have already passed all national and international tests, such as tensile strength, elongation at break, puncture resistance, and impact resistance, and will not be easily damaged.
It severely condemns the online video and reminds the public to be vigilant of the recent rumors that undermine the quality of designated bags with ulterior motives.
EPD will refer cases with suspected criminal elements to the police for follow-up investigation.
