Jasmine Yen, the 19-year-old daughter of Hong Kong martial arts icon Donnie Yen Ji-dan, has debuted in the world of music with her first single - idk.
Jasmine, who signed to Sony Music Entertainment's RCA Records Greater China, made her debut last Friday (Jul 28) with her single written and performed in Chinese and English.
Her first live performance at the Majulah Music Night in Singapore yesterday (Jul 30) featured unreleased material from her upcoming album - including eight songs set to hit the shelf on September 1.
Although it rained before the show, it did not affect the audience's enthusiasm as a large number of music lovers flocked to the show and called Jasmine's name.
Jasmine's debut single, idk, is a light-hearted pop-R&B song with a light but exhilarating rhythm, exploring the uneasy nature of a relationship along with the journey of a young girl's self-discovery, autonomy, and self-love.
The gifted 19-year-old has been composing since she was seven and has over 70 songs under her belt, half of which were written during the pandemic.
Regarding her musical journey, Jasmine Yen said she was blessed to begin singing and songwriting by joining RCA. She hopes to inspire a generation of bold and confident girls with her foray into the world of music.
Ruth Ling, General Manager of RCA Records Greater China, had been intrigued with her distinct vocals and her instinct to write commercial hits since she first listened to Jasmine's demo.
She added that it was her pleasure to play a role in developing and unveiling Jasmine's talents to the world and growing her fanbase in Asia and beyond.
Managing Director Kevin Foo also sang her praises, stating Jasmine was the prime example of a perfect modern-day artist, an innate talent who has a unique story that transcends cultural and geographic boundaries.
He was also excited that RCA was partnering with her at the beginning of her journey and is filled with anticipation regarding how it will go.
