The Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM) said on Wednesday that there were yet several hundred vacancies in the field to be filled as new construction projects keep coming up.
Terence Mang Ka-wing, the president of HKICM, stated that the government annual capital works expenditure is expected to exceed HK$100 billion in the coming years, while the annual total construction volume could reach HK$300 billion when taking together other projects to be implemented in the private sector.
He said there were inadequate registered construction managers in Hong Kong to coordinate or supervise the construction projects and encourage young people with aspirations to join the industry.
As the overall leaders of construction projects, construction managers have to coordinate effectively with different professionals and clients and make decisions to ensure the projects are well completed on time and within budget.
They were also required to apply their professional knowledge and skills to construction management to solve issues and problems at work.
