The owner of a refuse transfer station at Stonecutters Island lost his right arm when he caught it in a crushing machine on Thursday morning.
The incident happened at around 8.40 am when the 49-year-old man was cleaning the crusher. It is understood one of the workers at the station accidentally switched on the machine, with the man’s right arm being pulled into the crusher.
Firefighters responded to the scene and rescued the semi-conscious man. He was then rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.
Police are still investigating the cause of the incident.
