The benchmark Hang Seng Index dropped 656 points, or 2.55 percent, to 25,101.
The Hang Seng Tech Index fell 2.34 percent to 4,831.
In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite Index slid 1.13 percent to 4,077, while the Shenzhen Component Index declined 2.14 percent to 13,868.
