The Ocean Park Conservation Foundation was notified about the stranded porpoise on January 26. The carcass was subsequently transported to Ocean Park for dissection and further analysis on the same day.
The incident occurred at Sai Wan Beach. The stranded young finless porpoise was identified as female, measuring approximately 130 centimeters in length. The condition of the carcass was classified as Level 2—freshly dead.
The Ocean Park Conservation Foundation urges the public to report any suspected cases of cetacean, shark, and skate strandings by calling the 1823 hotline. It is crucial to provide the time, location, and photos of the stranding to allow the task force to respond promptly.
The foundation also appeals to the public to avoid leaving trash behind when visiting the ocean to help protect marine life.
