The city's largest pro-establishment party will put forward 30 proposals and suggestions - including allowing mainlanders to invest in Hong Kong's initial public offerings - in the upcoming Two Sessions set to be held in Beijing next month.
Apart from the introduction of IPO Connect, the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) suggests promoting Hong Kong as the preferred destination for mainland companies seeking overseas listings, advancing the implementation of the Patriotic Education Law, establishing a green and environmentally friendly recycling ecosystem in collaboration with cities in the Greater Bay Area, and improving cross-border clearance measures between China and SAR.
Rock Chen Chung-nin, a Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) from the DAB, also proposed the introduction of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) under the mutual access program to attract mainland investment.
Another NPC deputy, Kennedy Wong Ying-ho, suggested promoting Hong Kong as the first choice for mainland companies seeking overseas listings.
In addition, the party proposed extending the operating hours of border checkpoints during weekends and public holidays - with Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau ports to be opened until 2 am and the Liantang port until midnight.
It also suggested adopting a collaborative inspection and joint clearance mode at the Sha Tau Kok and Huanggang ports.
Iris Wong Ping-fan, one of the deputies to NPC, proposed to explore the feasibility of introducing electronic Home Return Permits to enhance customs efficiency.
Another delegate, Brave Chan Yung, suggested organizing more open days for the military sites and incorporating activities such as visits to the Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks into the curriculum of the education institutions to enhance students' understanding of the country.
