Oxfam Trailwalker's new participant registration an all-time-high

About 3,400 good samaritans will be participating in this year's Oxfam Trailwalker - one of the largest fundraising sports events in the city - which is scheduled from next Friday (Nov 24) to the following Sunday (Nov 26).

Oxfam announced on Thursday that 2,128 are first-time participants, making up about 70 percent of the total and also the highest ratio ever recorded.

Bernard Chan, the Oxfam Trailwalker Steering Group Convenor, stated that the funds raised will be utilized to assist various projects worldwide, including local grassroots initiatives and aiding victims of extreme weather-related disasters.

With the theme of  "Walk Against Poverty," this year's event has a route length of around 100 kilometers that starts on the MacLehose Trail from Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung and finishes at Crossroads Foundation, Tuen Mun.

Oxfam stated that up to 283 groups of businesses or organization teams - comprised of four members each - are taking part in Trailwalker, an all-time high since the pandemic.

The oldest participant is 82 years old, while the most senior team's average age is 71, with the youngest attendant being 18.

Chan Kwok-keung, who has joined a number of Trailwalkers and achieved various outstanding results, advised participants to check on their teammates' situation throughout the hike as a significant number of freshmen are taking part this year.

He also advised trailwalkers to alter their pace to one another when they come across more challenging hiking points, including Kai Kung Shan and Ma On Au.
