Typhoon Talim tears loose ceiling panels, air diffuser at Queen Mary Hospital

The Queen Mary Hospital announced late Monday that an air diffuser in a lift was loosened, while eight false ceiling panels at the Main Block were also detached under the impact of Typhoon Talim.  

The spokesperson said the incidents happened while the T8 signal was in force.   

A 60 centimeters long air diffuser installed at the ceiling of a lift at Main Block was loosened at around 9.30 am on Monday and is suspected to be caused by the intense winds in the lift shaft.   

There was no passenger in the lift when the incident happened.   

The hospital suspended the use of the lift while also inspecting other elevators of the same model in the hospital. Maintenance work has been completed, and the lift concerned has resumed operation later.  

In addition, the fierce winds detached eight pieces of false ceiling panels at the ground floor corridor of the hospital's Main Block at around 2 pm on the same day. The glass of the fire door was also cracked.  

The hospital cordoned off the area and arranged engineering personnel for inspections.  

It has reported the incidents to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
