Boy, 16, arrested for spraying unknown liquid on JR train in Japan, 3 passengers ill

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in Kanagawa Prefecture for allegedly spraying an unknown liquid inside a JR Tokaido Line train carriage on Sunday, causing an unpleasant odour and leaving three passengers with throat discomfort, Japanese media reported.

The incident occurred around 4.30pm when the train was stopped at JR Yokohama Station. The boy allegedly sprayed the liquid, disrupting normal train operations. He has admitted to spraying liquid from a container he was carrying, but the substance remains unidentified, police said.

Three passengers reported throat discomfort, prompting someone to press an emergency button. The train was stopped at JR Kawasaki Station for handling, causing a delay of about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Police believe the boy boarded the train at Yokohama Station with five other youths and disembarked at Kawasaki Station. His name has not been released as he is a minor.
