Man, 19, arrested for repeatedly slapping baby on light rail in Tin Shui Wai

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse after he was filmed repeatedly slapping a baby multiple times on a light rail train in Tin Shui Wai, police said.

The incident occurred around 9.30am on Monday on a Light Rail 761P route. The man, believed to be the baby girl's uncle, was with the infant in a stroller. The baby had her feet resting on the stroller's railing when the man repeatedly struck her legs. The act was filmed by a witness and posted on social media, sparking public outrage.

Following a proactive investigation, police arrested the local man in Tin Shui Wai on Tuesday on suspicion of "maltreatment or neglect of a child or young person under his care." He has been released on bail and must report back to police in mid-March. The case is being handled by the Yuen Long district criminal investigation team.
