Jumpin Gym USA expressed deep regret towards the "false accusation" made by an angry customer, who slammed the family entertainment center for hosting an "unfair" Happy Rainbow game on Saturday.
Liu claimed the game was a scam, as players only get a prize in the coin-pitching game when their tokens end up in the colored area without touching the boundary of the rainbow, but he claims the tokens are larger than the colored area and make winning impossible.
"We have to stress that all colored areas of the rainbow patterns are bigger than the tokens and we deeply regret the customer's false accusations," it said.
The company said a branch manager explained to Liu that he did not win a prize according to the company's rules but they did not reach an agreement. The manager also took a picture of the position of Liu's token and showed the photo to the police, it said.
Liu said he had spent more than an hour and some 2,000 tokens on the game and felt strange when the staff member claimed all their tokens close to the colored area were "touching the boundary," so he asked the manager to take a photo. He said the photo, which was taken from overhead, might not accurately show the true position of the token.
"There was a plastic board on the rainbow and the token was on the plastic board. It might be magnified in the photo.""The staff could not explain to us how we could win the prize and we were confused. I always play this game and I felt I was scammed, so I called the police," he said. Liu said many witnesses at the scene also thought his token did not touch the boundary.
"Many people said the token was sticking to the boundary perfectly and suggested I should call the police," he said.Liu said he called the police as the company failed to deal with customers' complaints and the staff had a bad attitude.
He also hopes the company could provide the photo of his token."They claimed that the photo will be saved at the company's customer service department within a month but we have to file an application in order to get it."
Another player, Gordon, who claimed to be present during the incident also questioned Jumpin Gym USA on Facebook yesterday for not providing the photo. He also said that, as a player of more than 10 years, he was completely disappointed with the company after this incident.
The Jumpin Gym's Tuen Mun branch remained in operation yesterday but not many customers showed up."I just finished playing the Happy Rainbow game and found the tokens are not very slippery," a customer, Wai, said.
"I want to find out whether the tokens are too big. I used 20 tokens and won 120 reward tickets," she said. But some people said they will never play the game after the controversy.
"The game is a scam and whether or not we win a prize all depends on the staffers' mood," a woman said.stacy.shi@singtaonewscorp.com
