HKIA to transform into tourist hub

Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong Jack So Chak-kwong said Cainiao Smart Gateway and 11 SKIES will take the Hong Kong International Airport to the next level.

After visiting the two strategic facilities with AA executive director Cissy Chan Ching-sze, So said: "Cainiao's new facility will enable us to capture the immense opportunities arising from the continuous growth of cross-boundary e-commerce and consolidate our position as the e-commerce hub of the region."

He added that 11 SKIES will transform the airport into a tourist hub "attracting visitors from the Greater Bay Area and major markets in Asia, and providing fresh impetus to economic growth."

Cainiao Smart Gateway commenced operation last September, and it is expected to add 1.7 million tonnes of cargo volume each year.
