Food chain sued over finger tip in salad

A customer has filed a lawsuit against US fast food chain Chopt over a salad that she says contained a piece of a manager's finger.

The action by Allison Cozzi of Greenwich, Connecticut alleges she bought a salad at a Chopt outlet in Mount Kisco, New York, on April 7 and realized while eating it that "she was chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed in to and made a part of the salad."

This followed a manager at the restaurant severing a piece of her left index finger while chopping arugula.

The manager went to hospital but the contaminated arugula was served to customers.

Westchester County health records show Chopt was fined US$900 (HK$7,002).

Cozzi claims to have suffered injuries including shock, panic attacks, migraine, cognitive impairment, nausea, dizziness and neck and shoulder pain as a result of eating the salad and wants monetary damages.

Chopt Creative Salad has more than 70 outlets across the eastern United States.
