Guess what delight may be rolling out for a comeback

Food trucks may return, this time at the harborfront, according to Ivan Ho Man-yiu, a member of the Harbourfront Commission.

Ho said the commission is actively exploring ways to accommodate the agility and mobility of food trucks at the harborfront.

It recently conducted a meeting to discuss the introduction of catering, retail, and entertainment facilities on a pilot basis.

Ho said they are currently studying short-term measures that can be promptly implemented.

"The objective of these measures is to offer unique snacks that are not typically available in vending machines," he said, adding the response will be closely assessed and "we'll make necessary improvements."

In the medium-term, Ho said the Development Bureau aims to regularize food and beverage selling facilities under the harborfront site permit, similar to restaurants and other refreshment kiosks and shops constructed along the boardwalk.

However, concerns have been raised by Andrew Lam Siu-lo, an Election Committee sector lawmaker, regarding the government's efforts to boost tourism.

Lam said the government's expectation for the average spending of tourists is decreasing, raising doubts about the effectiveness of its initiatives.

Despite plans to maintain Hong Kong's status as an international city and implement various measures, Lam said the estimation for tourists' average spend has not been revised.

Lam attributed the decline in purchasing power to a decrease in business and long-haul travelers. He criticized the provision of free entertainment, which does not contribute significantly.

Lam suggested authorities enhance communication with the catering industry to improve service and promote the economy effectively.
