Industrialist Eddy Li a 'great loss to HK society'

Tributes poured in for Dr Eddy Li Sau-hung, permanent honorary president of the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, who died three weeks after suffering a stroke.

Watch company Campell Group, founded by Li, announced that Li passed away peacefully on Monday at the age of 69, with his family and friends by his side.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said Li's death was "a great loss to Hong Kong society."

"I have known Dr Li for many years. He was a successful business leader and an outstanding industrialist who had held important positions in various local business associations, contributing to the development of Hong Kong's industrial and business community," Lee said.

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah also noted Li's contributions.

"Dr Li was an antiquities collector with a great passion for Chinese culture and a keen interest in photography," Yeung said. "Not only did he strive to promote arts development over the years and spare no effort in conserving Chinese cultural relics, he also contributed valuable opinions to the Culture Commission."

Linn said Li contributed to the revitalization of the city's old industrial buildings.
