Residents of 3,000 transitional housing units developed by New World Development will receive education, medical, technology and emergency support.
The developer said these measures would form part of the package of first emergency support units reserved for people suffering from domestic violence and other major life changes, as well as community centers and innovation classrooms for students.
The nearly 3,000 units will be created across four projects in Sheung Shui, San Tin, Lau Fau Shan and Tin Shui Wai that are aimed at helping more than 10,000 people.
The Sheung Shui and San Tin projects will be completed in the third and fourth quarters and start receiving residents.
New World said it is collaborating with four major local corporations - Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation, Microsoft Hong Kong, HKT and Pricerite - to create the SAR's first "smart community" in transitional housing projects.
The foundation donated HK$4 million to subsidize basic household appliances and set up emergency support units to help people facing special circumstances, including domestic violence, major life changes or urgent housing needs for the elderly.
It will also set up more community hubs in the transitional housing projects to provide more shared spaces with child-friendly and learning facilities for families in need.
Microsoft Hong Kong and HKT will build innovation hubs with laptops and computers for use as classrooms by students, working youths and the elderly.
"Microsoft Hong Kong will also collaborate with educational groups such as Hour of Code Hong Kong to tailor STEM, artificial intelligence and other courses to meet the needs of the underprivileged," the developer said. "Volunteers will also be invited to provide on-site and online teaching assistance, supporting residents' learning and promoting upward mobility."
HKT will also introduce its eye AI Interactive Robot, HKT education Creative Technology Workshop and Now TV STEM Learning Pack to the innovation classrooms.
"Through these edutainment STEM learning sets, which will feature ebooks, coding classes and motion-sensing interactive games as well as engaging education programs, students will learn about science, technology, engineering, mathematics, astronomy and arts," the company said.
Residents will also have easier access to online shopping as Pricerite will allow them to buy daily necessities online by scanning a QR code for free delivery.
Executive director Sitt Nam-Hoi said New World fully supports the government's transitional housing program. "By harnessing the creativity from all sectors, we are able to inject innovative thinking into our projects, alleviate the housing pressure on grassroots communities, and contribute to their upward mobility," he said.
