HKAPA announces new dean

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts will have a new dean from Thursday as the school announced that prestigious and well-respected theater innovator Jorge Luis Cacheiro will take on the post.

Cacheiro is an award-winning theater director and producer whose work has been presented globally. He holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of California and a master of fine arts degree in directing from Yale University.

For over 25 years, he has devoted himself to higher education in the performing arts, including at Pace University, Montclair State University, Princeton University, California Institute of the Arts and the University of Iowa.

The HKAPA provides both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, in areas including Chinese opera, dance, drama, film and television, music and theater and entertainment arts.

In the 2023 QS World University Rankings, the HKAPA is ranked 13th globally and 1st in Asia in the performing arts category.
