Local rice hits the spot

"This this rice!" is how United States consulate general Gregory May described a local lunch box.

He had a taste and shared his excitement as he lined up to buy a "two-entree plate" yesterday.

Calling the dish "this this rice," May praised his lunch as cheap and delicious. On the consulate Facebook page, May said he finally got to try the local-style meal box after receiving many suggestions.

"I finally got out of the office with lots of Hongkongers for a quick lunch - so tasty and affordable," May said.

He later said he ordered Chinese sausage with Chinese broccoli and braised chicken with potatoes.

Netizens found May's translation of "this this rice" funny, saying it vividly shows how people point at the dishes, and say "this, this, and this please" when ordering a two-entree plate.
