Shark may return to bite Tizi

A Chinese influencer is under police investigation after a clip of her eating a great white shark went viral.

The vlogger known by the pseudonym Tizi was seen in the now-deleted clip feasting on the big fish, which police in Nanchong, Sichuan, confirmed was a great white.

"It may look vicious but its meat is truly very tender," Tizi said while tearing off chunks of flesh in a video posted in July. That was after it was sliced in half, marinated and barbecued.

Earlier, Tizi lay down next to the two-meter fish to show its size.

Great whites are listed globally as a vulnerable species - one step before being classed as endangered.

Protected also in China, illegal possession of a great white can lead to a five-to-10-year prison term.

"It is flabbergasting an internet celebrity can eat a protected animal in front of millions," wrote one commentator of Tizi's tale.

"These uncultured attention-mongers will stoop very low to attract eyeballs!" another said.

Tizi claims to have acquired the shark through "legal channels," but officers of the agriculture bureau said yesterday that didn't fit the facts.
