Large dog that killed two small dogs in Yuen Long had history of attacking corgi

A large dog that killed a poodle and a bichon frise in Yuen Long on Monday had previously been detained by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for attacking a corgi in July, the department said.

The corgi owner, surnamed Cheung, told Hong Kong Animal Post that the same large dog, measuring about 1.5 metres in length, had attacked his three-year-old corgi "BoBo" on July 10 near Grand Yoho. The dog bit the corgi's right ear and refused to let go, with Cheung's wife knocked down twice while trying to fend it off. The corgi suffered a pierced right ear with multiple bite marks and required daily wound cleaning and antibiotics.

Cheung criticised the large dog's owner for failing to use a leash or muzzle. Police confirmed they had received a report on July 10 and referred the case to the AFCD.

The AFCD said it has arrested the dog owner following Monday's fatal attack.
