A 25cm suspected WWII mortar shell found at a Kwu Tung construction site was safely detonated on Tuesday morning, with no injuries reported.
Police were alerted around 9am to a suspected unexploded ordnance at a construction site next to the Kwu Tung North Integrated Welfare Services Complex on Pak Sau Road.
Upon arriving at around 9.42am, officers and firefighters swiftly cordoned off an area within a 50-meter radius of the site, established a command post, and deployed Fire Services personnel and ambulances to stand by.

After confirming the ordnance was a mortar shell from WWII, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau (EOD) officers arrived at the scene around 11am to assess the situation.
Authorities later determined that no evacuations were necessary, as the shell's location within the construction site posed no threat to surrounding areas.
EOD personnel deployed a bomb disposal robot at 11.37am to carry out a controlled detonation, with the operation successfully completed at 11.56am.
The case has been transferred to the Patrol Sub-unit of Lok Ma Chau District and the officers of the EOD for further investigation.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
