The Legislative Council Supervisory Committee is reviewing the case of lawmaker Judy Chan Kapui, who has been charged with careless driving after being filmed driving against the flow of traffic down Jaffe Road in Wan Chai earlier this year, according to LegCo president Starry Lee Wai-king.
Speaking to the media in Beijing on Sunday, Lee noted that the Committee will issue a formal response in due course after reviewing the case.
Chan from the New People’s Party was filmed driving against traffic while several fire trucks with flashing lights were responding to an emergency on January 23.
Chan later responded to Sing Tao Daily, the sister publication of The Standard, that she acknowledged driving the wrong way was inappropriate and left a bad impression. Chan said she believed it was safe at the time and had not interfered with the firefighters’ work.
After the charge, Chan said she no longer drives and now travels by bus, MTR, and taxi.
