The tournaments, organized by the IIHF, will take place at Discovery Bay Ice Rink, with more than 400 players, coaches and officials from 14 countries and regions expected to participate.
The events include the 2026 IIHF World U18 Championship Division III Group A, the Women’s World Championship Division II Group B, and the Men’s World Championship Division III Group B. Hong Kong’s men’s, women’s and U18 teams will compete against international opponents on home ice.
The championships are widely regarded as one of the top international ice hockey events, often dubbed the “Olympics of ice hockey.”
Opening ceremony kicks off series
An opening ceremony for the U18 tournament was held on March 2, featuring a drone light show and live orchestral performance.
Matches will be broadcast live online and on a large LED screen at Central Pier No.3, allowing the public to follow the action.
Organizers said the events will showcase Hong Kong’s capability in staging international sporting competitions while boosting sports, culture and tourism development.

‘Ice hockey village’ planned
The move marks a milestone for Hong Kong, which secured the three tournaments with support from Discovery Bay’s infrastructure and facilities.
Facilities including the rink, hotel and shopping areas will provide accommodation, training and support services for athletes and visitors. The rink has undergone upgrades to meet international standards, including improvements to lighting, protective structures and player facilities.
Officials said the tournaments are expected to attract spectators both in person and online, riding on growing interest in winter sports.
Discovery Bay aims to position itself as a year-round sports and leisure destination, hosting events ranging from ice sports to triathlons, tennis and beach competitions.
