Construction worker hospitalized after being impaled on steel rebar in Tung Chung

A construction worker was hospitalized on Thursday morning after being pierced by a steel rebar during a fall at a Tung Chung worksite.

The incident occurred around 10.42am today at a Housing Department construction site near Caritas Charles Vath College on Tung Chung Road, close to Chung Yat Street.

Reports indicate a 30-year-old male worker, surnamed Lee, accidentally stepped into air and fell backward onto a protruding steel bar, which impaled his buttock.

His colleagues promptly called for emergency services and carefully removed the bar before paramedics arrived.

The worker, who remained conscious, was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.  

He reportedly sustained a wound approximately five centimeters deep.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
