The Labour Department has ordered a halt to all lifting operations at a Tsuen Wan construction site after a fatal accident on Wednesday afternoon that killed one worker and injured two.
The incident occurred when several oxyacetylene cylinders fell from a lifting container during a crane operation at a site on Po Fung Road, striking workers below.
The department said it was deeply saddened by the death and injuries and extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the injured.
It immediately dispatched staff to investigate and issued a "suspension notice" to the contractor, stopping all lifting work at the site until measures are taken to eliminate the hazards.
The department is investigating the cause to determine legal liabilities and recommend improvements. Legal action will be taken if violations are found.
