The Hong Kong Observatory reported that a northeast monsoon brought markedly cooler weather on December 25, with midday temperatures generally 6 to 8 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day.
Temperatures are expected to drop further tonight, reaching around 13 degrees in urban areas tomorrow morning, while the New Territories will be generally cold.
Citizens are advised to monitor weather changes, dress warmly, and pay extra attention to the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
The strong monsoon signal was issued at 11.45 am.
Tomorrow morning will feel quite cool, with inland areas turning cold.
The dry monsoon will persist over Guangdong through the weekend and early next week, bringing mostly sunny skies but large day-night temperature differences inland.
A monsoon replenishment is forecast for mid- to late next week along the southern China coast, making it cloudier over the region.
