Police have arrested a 34-year-old driver and seized drugs worth approximately HK$57,500 during a vehicle inspection in Yau Ma Tei on Tuesday night.
West Kowloon emergency unit officers spotted a suspicious private car on Shanghai Street around 8:49pm and conducted an inspection. Officers discovered about 31.5 grams of suspected cocaine, 22.7 grams of suspected ketamine and 3.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle and on the driver.
The surnamed Choi local man was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in dangerous drugs and remains in custody. The case has been transferred to Yau Tsim police district crime squad for investigation.
Police reiterated that drug trafficking carries severe penalties under Hong Kong's Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, with maximum sentences reaching HK$5 million fines and life imprisonment.
