The government has warned the public to be vigilant after discovering a suspicious website spreading false information about the Tseung Kwan O–Lam Tin Tunnel.
Officials said on Tuesday that the website, titled “TKO Tunnel to Lam Tin” (https[:]//www[.]tko-ltt[.]hk), contains misinformation about the tunnel’s project scope, construction progress, costs and related studies.
A government spokesman stressed that the tunnel opened to traffic on December 11, 2022—contrary to the website’s claim that it would not open until 2028.
As the project was completed, the Civil Engineering and Development Department’s official project website was closed on April 30 this year.
“The suspicious website and all of its content have no connection with the CEDD, the Transport Department or the daily management, operation and maintenance of the Tseung Kwan O–Lam Tin Tunnel,” the spokesman said, adding that the case has been reported to police.
The government urged the public to stay alert and avoid providing any personal information to suspicious websites.
