Joshua Wong’s foreign collusion case adjourned to March next year

The national security case against former Demosisto secretary-general Joshua Wong Chi-fung has been adjourned to March 6 next year, after he appeared at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on Friday for a second mention.

Wong, who is currently serving a sentence over the 2020 subversion case, faces one count of “conspiracy to collude with a foreign or external force to endanger national security.” The charge stems from alleged activities in 2020 involving former lawmaker Nathan Law Kwun-chung and others whose identities remain unknown.

Presiding national security judge and chief magistrate Victor So Wai-tak postponed the hearing to continue handling the committal proceedings that determine whether the case will be transferred to the High Court. Wong will remain in custody.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors allege that between July and November 2020, Wong conspired with Law and others to request foreign or external institutions, organizations, or individuals to impose sanctions, blockades, or other hostile measures against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or the People’s Republic of China. 

The alleged conduct also includes attempts to seriously obstruct the formulation and implementation of laws or policies by the HKSAR government or the central authorities, actions prosecutors say could have resulted in serious consequences.
