FEHD denies crematorium shortage, says all applicants get slots within 15 days

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has stated that no applicants have failed to obtain cremation slots within 15 days, responding to concerns about potential crematorium shortages following the Hospital Authority's upcoming mortuary fee implementation.

The department confirmed it has consistently met its service pledge of providing cremation slots within 15 days of application submission. "Basically every reservation application receives immediate slot allocation, with no cases of applicants failing to obtain slots within 15 days," an FEHD spokesperson said.

The department cited available statistics, noting approximately 350 cremation slots remain available between November 11-25 across different crematoriums. Applicants can make reservations online anytime or submit in-person applications during office hours.

While acknowledging varying demand patterns across different dates and crematorium locations - with higher demand during holidays and at urban facilities - the FEHD emphasized it continuously monitors overall slot availability to ensure applicants can secure bookings within the 15-day period.
