A 27-year-old kindergarten teacher has been arrested for suspected child abuse involving a 3-year-old girl at a school in Ngau Tau Kok, a case that came to light when the child’s grandmother noticed bruising on her abdomen.
The police received the report on Wednesday morning from the girl’s grandmother, stating that she discovered bruises on her granddaughter’s abdomen around ten days ago and suspected the child had been abused by a teacher at her kindergarten located at Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate.
It is known that the victim is a K1 student and the arrested woman is the child’s class teacher. Recently, the grandmother noticed injuries on her granddaughter’s abdomen but the teacher had never mentioned it to anyone.
Today, while at home, the girl informed her grandmother that she was experiencing abdominal pain and vomiting and revealed that the teacher had hit her in the school’s restroom.
The grandmother thus checked the child’s body and found a bruise measuring two centimeters by one centimeters on her abdomen, prompting her to take the girl to the kindergarten and report the incident to the police.
The police arrived and arrested the woman for “ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of child or young person”.
The girl was sent to United Christian Hospital for medical treatment, accompanied by her grandmother.
The case has been handed to the District Investigation Team 6 of Sau Mau Ping District for further investigation.
