Typhoon Wipha topples lamppost on Ting Kau Bridge, no injuries reported

The Highways Department noted that a lamppost fell onto the driving lanes at Ting Kau Bridge on Sunday morning as Typhoon Wipha hit Hong Kong, with no injuries reported.

A social media post by the department stated that Tsing Ma Control Area staff discovered the lamppost had collapsed due to strong winds around 10am, when the No. 10 signal was in effect.

The lamppost lay across three traffic lanes on the bridge, with drivers required to divert to the layby to avoid the fallen lamppost. Fortunately, no vehicles were damaged, and there were no casualties reported in the incident.

All lanes of Ting Kau Bridge have remained closed since 10.45am under the influence of strong winds.

Meanwhile, the contractor has removed the toppled lampost and cleared the affected roadway by approximately 1pm.

The department will also arrange repairs of the lamppost as soon as the wind signal is lowered while ensuring worker safety.
