Police seize $12m in drugs, arrest one in Tseung Kwan O

Police arrested a 43-year-old man and confiscated suspected cocaine and ketamine worth HK$12 million in Tseung Kwan O on Saturday.

The suspect, surnamed Lam, allegedly resisted officers during a stop-and-search operation at a housing estate before being subdued. 

Police found three one-kilogram blocks of suspected cocaine in his plastic bag, another 12 kilograms in his residential unit, and 395 grams of suspected ketamine in his car.

Lam, who is unemployed, was arrested for trafficking in dangerous drugs and obstructing police. He will appear at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts on July 7.

Authorities believe Lam was recruited by a drug cartel with financial incentives. They noted a trend of syndicates using high-security private residences as storage and distribution hubs to evade detection.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a HK$5 million fine. Police warned the public against flouting the law.
