Tourists have been rushing onto the outlying island as interest in the “crocodile” grows, all wanting to catch a glimpse of the “animal”.
All this has tourists’ imagination to thank, as the “crocodile” turns out to be a man-made structure on the shore that resembles the looks of the animal.
The so-called "Crocodile Rock" is located near Siu Kwai Wan, where an undersea power cable from Lantau Island reaches Cheung Chau.
The rock, which resembles the back of a crocodile diving back into the sea, is actually a protective structure for the cable. Over time, erosion from waves has shaped it into what now appears to be a crocodile.
Despite its artificial origins, "Crocodile Rock" has quickly become another must-see spot in Cheung Chau, proving that sometimes, a little imagination can create new wonders.
