Drunken man critically injured after being hit by taxi in Tsim Sha Tsui

A 22-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by a taxi while crossing the road in Tsim Sha Tsui early Sunday.

The accident happened at about 12.52am on Chatham Road South towards Salisbury Road, near a pedestrian crossing close to Austin Road. The man was knocked unconscious but was breathing and had a pulse when paramedics arrived. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and later regained consciousness.

The 33-year-old male taxi driver, surnamed Chan, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and is being detained for investigation.

Sources said the man, in his 20s, had alcohol on his breath. The taxi was travelling on a green light when the man suddenly stepped out from the left side of the vehicle's front. The driver could not stop in time and hit him, throwing him about 30 meters. He suffered head injuries and lost consciousness.
