Boy licks communal tongs in Sha Tin sushi store, disgusting netizens

A video of a child licking a pair of tongs at a sushi restaurant in Sha Tin went viral, sparking online criticism. Some commentators proposed implementing measures similar to those in Japan that hold the child's parents accountable through legal action.

The clip, uploaded to Threads by a witness of the vile behavior on Tuesday (Feb 4) evening, captured the boy kneeling on a chair with his shoes on while licking a small food clipper that was kept in the box of pickled ginger.

The parents did not stop the kid, and the tongs eventually fell to the ground.

The post soon sparked outrage among shocked netizens, who condemned the boy's inappropriate behavior and criticized his parents for not instilling proper social etiquette and basic hygiene knowledge.

Some suggested the restaurant should sue the boy's parents, referring to a case in 2023 where Japanese sushi chain Sushiro filed a suit against a teenager who was filmed licking a soy sauce bottle in 2023.
