This center will provide comprehensive rehabilitation and clinical services for sports injuries.
Focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries, the center aims to offer professional and efficient care to patients.
PolyU announced on Monday that the initiative seeks to develop rehabilitation professionals with global perspectives and advanced skills, while also serving as a platform for international cooperation.
Last week, a memorandum of understanding was signed during a visit led by PolyU’s vice president of Research and Innovation, Christopher Chao Yu-hang, to Southern Medical University in Guangzhou.
Chao said PolyU's commitment to technological innovation, research development, and talent cultivation, expressing hope that the collaboration would enhance the application of advanced sports medicine and rehabilitation technologies both domestically and globally, thereby accelerating the development of the medical sector in the Greater Bay Area.
"PolyU’s Department of Rehabilitation Sciences is home to leading scholars and experienced clinical instructors, making it a top academic institution in Asia and globally," Chao said.
The rehabilitation center will also explore the possibility of launching joint-school programs between the two universities, as well as facilitating international academic exchanges and clinical internship opportunities.
Leveraging the scientific research capabilities of both Southern Medical University and PolyU’s Sports Science and Technology Institute, the center plans to initiate innovative research in areas such as sports science, intelligent rehabilitation equipment, and sports monitoring systems.
PolyU looks forward to collaborating with Southern Medical University and its affiliated hospital to transform the center into a world-class platform that integrates medicine, industry, academia, and research.
