Many people were seen at Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery with citizens visiting the graves one after another on the morning of Ching Ming.
Some citizens have prepared roasted meat, fruit, and other offerings for the occasion, saying that the prices of the items were similar to those in previous years.
Other citizens said that the sacrifices were getting more expensive year by year, and spent nearly HK$1,000 on incense candles, roast pork, etc.
Citizens will have to hike up the mountain as road closures have been implemented in the nearby area and members of the Civil Aid Service are stationed along the road to assist those in need.
Ching Ming occurs once a year where many citizens will go to the mountain to pay their respects in person. However, some elderly people are unable to walk, and they hope that the cemetery can arrange some transportation.
Some members of the public mentioned that walking to the cemetery has become easier after the opening of the footpath from Tiu Keng Ling to the cemetery.
This morning was rather cloudy, with one or two showers, and citizens felt it was more comfortable to go up the mountain to worship in the drizzle compared to strong sunshine. However, they still hope that the cemetery can be equipped with escalators and other such facilities.
At the Tsang Tsui Columbarium in Tuen Mun, many people queued up to use the Joss Paper Burner.
Around 10 am, the monitor was calling numbers 181 to 200, but the allocated number had already reached 676, meaning that they had to wait over 400 people for their turn to come.
Some people said that they had to wait more than two hours to pay their respects, and they might consider asking the staff to do it for them.
However, some of them were against the idea, as it is different when doing it by themselves compared to giving it to someone else.
