The Hong Kong Science Museum will not be relocated as the government is seeking a new site for the new museum dedicated to showcasing national achievements and development, according to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).
This came after the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau earlier proposed relocating the famous museum to the current site of the Heritage Museum in Shatin to make way for the new museum to move into Tsim Sha Tsui.
The director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Vincent Liu Ming-kwong, revealed that a new site would be assigned for the dedicated museum regarding the public feedback on the issue.
That means the Science Museum will stay in Tsim Sha Tsui, while the Heritage Museum will not be axed.
He added that the government aims to provide a detailed report to the Legislative Council after further consultation in the first half of the year.
Liu also noted that the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence will be converted into the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence starting in September, and it will collaborate with the cultural authorities in Shenzhen to organize exhibition activities jointly.
