Around 8 am today, the owner of a newspaper stall on Argyle Street in Mong Kok was ready to open up when they found that the stall had been ransacked and that some of their valuables had been stolen. They contacted the police for assistance.
Separately, a stall owner of a newspaper stall on Portland Street near Langham Place also found that cash, cigarettes, and playing cards had been burglarized when she came back to open her stall.
After inspection, each stall owner found to have lost around HK$2,000 to HK$3,000 worth of valuables.
The owner of the Argyle Street stall surnamed Chong, stated that the security camera near the stall showed that the perpetrator was tall and thin, dressed in black, and wearing a mask.
Chong pointed out that he had been burglarized a total of three times since November 2023 and has incurred nearly HK$30,000 in losses.
He said that he has already strengthened security measures but still fell victim to burglary.
The owner of the Portland Street newspaper stall stated that this was the second time that she has been burglarized. With the burglar from the previous case having already being arrested, she did not expect a similar case to happen again.
She stated that there is a security camera near her stall and her stall is also surrounded by a wired fence. She plans on further strengthening the security measures.
